The Faculty of History and Philology of Chelyabinsk State University is one of the peers of Chelyabinsk State University. It was organised in August 1976 and was the first faculty of the newly established university.
Initially, it educated students of only two specialities: history and philology. There were so many students that in 1979 it was decided to split the department: the Faculty of History and the Faculty of Philology emerged at Chelyabinsk State University. From 1979 to 2012 historians and philologists conducted educational and scientific activities within the framework of independent faculty structures. The number of students grew, and new specialities were opened: political science, international relations, advertising and public relations, and pedagogical education. Humanities education at Chelyabinsk State University became a recognised brand of the highest quality.
Famous Russian scientists, who formed scientific schools and educated more than one generation of students, were involved in academic studies.
Many graduates of the History and Philology Faculties have become renowned professionals, public figures of regional and all-Russian scale. Today they help educate a new generation of students and develop higher education in Chelyabinsk.
In 2015, a decision was made to restore the region's well-known brand of humanitarian education. The renewed Faculty of History and Philology of Chelyabinsk State University returned to the university structure, absorbing the best traditions of the past.
