The Faculty of Economics was founded.
One of the detachments of the university expedition discovered a fortified settlement of the Middle Bronze Age of the turn of the III—II millennium BC — the famous Arkaim.
The Faculty of Chemistry and the Faculty of Law – the Institute of Law today - were founded.
An intersectoral regional center for advanced training and retraining of Personnel was founded – the Institute for Advanced Training and Retraining of Personnel today.
The Faculty of Accessibility of Higher Education was founded, which marked the beginning of inclusive education in the Southern Urals. Today, this area is coordinated by the Resource Educational and Methodological Center for the Training of Disabled People and Persons with Disabilities, whose territory of responsibility is the Chelyabinsk, Sverdlovsk and Kurgan regions. The second independent structure that emerged from the FDVO was the Institute of Pre-university Education.
The Faculty of Linguistics and Translation was founded.
ChelSU has entered the TEMPUS international program, and since 2001 graduates' diplomas have received a single European application.
The Faculty of Management and the Miass branch of CSU were founded.
The Faculty of Psychology was founded – the Institute of Education and Practical Psychology today.
The Faculty of Biology and the Faculty of Eurasia and the East were founded.
The Faculty of Pedagogical Education – the Institute of Education and Practical Psychology today, the Faculty of Correspondence and Distance Learning, the Trinity branch of CSU were founded. The CSU Botanical Garden has been established, which is still the only one in Chelyabinsk.
The Faculty of Ecology and the Faculty of Journalism are separated into independent divisions. Kostanay branch of CSU was founded in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The interuniversity medical and physical center was founded, which united almost all the laser medicine of Chelyabinsk on the basis of several sites: CSU, YUGMU and Chelyabinsk City Clinical Hospital No. 1. Later, the Chelyabinsk Regional Children's Hospital, Chelyabinsk Regional Hospital, Chelyabinsk City Clinical Hospital No. 5 and several private centers joined the project. The result of the center's activity is inventions: patented and implemented laser medical technologies.
The Institute of Economics of Industries, Business and Administration was founded.
The Institute of Information Technologies was founded, on the basis of which the first iLab project training laboratory in the region is being created.
CSU physicists have made a significant contribution to the world astronomical science: they were the first to conduct research on the Chelyabinsk meteorite that fell into Lake Chebarkul.
CSU has become the only South Ural university with a megagrant of 90 million rubles in the field of mathematics, which is implemented by an international–level mathematical laboratory designed for research in the field of quantum topology.
The University Educational District has resumed its activities, uniting schools of the Chelyabinsk region around the university. The first professional skills championship for people with disabilities "Abilimpics" has started in the Chelyabinsk region.
CSU College was founded. A book by university scientists "Chelyabinsk Superbolid" with unique research results of the Chelyabinsk meteorite has been published. It was translated into English and received international recognition.
The Faculty of Fundamental Medicine and the Research Institute of Nuclear Medicine of CSU were opened.
A regional representative office of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences was opened on the basis of CSU. On the territory of the first building, the first athletes are hosted by a roller ski track with lighting and a mini-football field. The number of buildings of CSU has increased to 11.
The design of a world-class intercollegiate campus on the territory of CSU has begun.
A hockey field opens on the territory of the first building, which is being converted into a skate park in the summer.
