The Faculty of Mathematics was opened in 1976 simultaneously with the University itself. It has 17 Doctors of Sciences (Professors) and 30 Candidates of Sciences (Associate Professors). An academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergei Vladimirovich Matveev is one of the key staff members. The guest lecturers are Doctors of Sciences (in Physics and Mathematics), Professors from the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian Federal Nuclear Centre.
The Faculty and staff have close scientific ties with colleagues from Germany, Italy, USA, France, Germany, Mexico, Japan.
The best students and postgraduates of the Faculty receive scholarships of the President of the Russian Federation, the Government of the Russian Federation, the Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region, the Legislative Assembly of the Chelyabinsk Region, the Administration of Chelyabinsk, scholarships and awards named after Academician V.P. Makeev, scholarships named after Professor G.A. Zavyalov, participate in all-Russian and international scientific conferences and Olympiads.
